Due to excessive snow melt caused by a freak dust storm, our Crested Butte Camp has been cancelled.  Unfortunately, the dust from the storm is absorbing the sun's energy at a much higher rate than normal and the snowpack will not be adequate to hold a high-quality on-snow camp.

Our New Zealand trip is on for July/August.

Congrats to Denver University after clinching another NCAA championship in Rumford, ME today.  DU used a strong performance in the women's 15km Skate Race to hold onto the lead, winning with 659 points.  CU squeaked in front of New Mexico by 0.5 points for second place with 602.5 points.

All DU skiers were on Q1.3 grind with hand structure on top.  That's the only report we've received so far.  Results inside.   Read More...

Image: Northug takes another gold in fast finish

Petter Northug won a tough 50km freestyle today in Liberec, completing a sweep of the three mass-start races that ended skating (30km Pursuit, Relay, 50km skate).  This was the second day in a row where the organizers allowed service pit stops where athletes could exchange skis.  This made for a bit more work for us service guys, but it also added excitement to the race as new tactics played into the race.

Image: Demong Wins World Championships; Solid 30km for American Women

Billy Demong came from almost a minute deficit in 10km and outsprinted the one skier to hang with him at the finish to win his first World Championship.  The US women raced well to move up in the pack and finish 17th & 22nd.  Kowalcyk won with Norwegian's slotting in the next two medal spots.   Read More...

The US was strongly favored for a medal at the Nordic Combined Team Event today, but Bill Demong was penalized for not being able to find his bib and not allowed to jump.  The team was given a 3:30 penalty, putting them out of the runnning for a medal.

The tragedy became even worse when Demong discovered the bib was underneath his jumping suit.
