BNS Wax Recommendation

2017 McCall Re-Mastered

(45K,30K,15K Freestyle)

Saturday January 21, 2017

Ponderosa State Park, McCall Idaho

Event Information-

Event offers a 45,30,and 15K skate option on the same course used for the 2008 Masters World Cup. Mass start format with a 10:00am start time. Course is rolling with incredible grooming.

* Weather- NOAA Forecast Friday: Mostly cloudy, with a high near 32, then falling to 25 during the remainder of the day.

* Friday Night: A 40 percent chance of snow. Cloudy, with a low around 22. Less than a half inch of accumulation.

* Saturday: A 30% chance of snow. Cloudy with a high near 30. New snow accumulation of less than one inch possible.

* Recommendation: Following testing results Friday Morning at/around race start time. Conditions and snow are drier and colder than expected and on the abrasive side. Error on the cold side and keep in mind that the tracks can get dirty in the trees.

Base Layer: Ski*Go LF Graphite!

Race Paraffin: Holmenkol Speedbase Cold – however both Holmenkol Racing Mix Blue (Matrix Blue) and Ski*Go HF Blue tested well and all better than red.

Fluoro Powder: Ski*Go C105 powder and Holmenkol Speed Powder MID tested very close and hands down better than the cold powder.

Top Coat: Best: Mid 08 Block; Next best: Ski*Go C22 solid followed by C105 Solid.

Structure: Fine linear helped slightly but as we added more hand structure it didn’t seem to do much. Error on less!

Kick: N/A

Test Discussion- Tested: Paraffin - Holmenkol Speedbase Cold/MID, Holmenkol Race Mix Blue/Red, Ski*Go HF Blue/Orange; Powders – Holmenkol Mid/Cold and Ski*Go C105; Top Coats – Holmenkol Mid/Mid 08/cold blocks and Ski*Go C22 & C105 blocks

CONCLUSIONARY NOTES – The venue has a lot of tree cover throughout portions of the course and depending on conditions snow can be dirty with tree debris. Wax for durability and for dirty snow. Testing showed that the snow is skiing colder and on the abrasive side however Ski*Go C22 Solid skied very well and could be a good option as a top coat given previous experiences… I will be on site tomorrow morning testing hand structure and top coats prior to race start.

note: BNS imports Holmenkol and SkiGo waxes, and also sells waxes from Swix, Toko, Rode, Solda, Rex, Guru, Innovax, Magnar and others. We search for the fastest waxes for our customers and our testing is professional, objective and transparent. We make our best effort to test what we think is the best from each brand. However, given that we are testing more options from Holmenkol and SkiGo, there is a bias toward those brands. With this full disclosure, you can assess the legitimacy of our testing yourself. Visit Swix and Toko for their official recommendations. If you have any questions please contact us.
