Wax Recommendation

This recommendation is based on the forecast and our experience at Snow Mountain Ranch.

Base Layer - Ski*Go LF Graphite - helps with durability and will make the skis faster in the extremely cold snow.

Paraffin Layer - Choose One of the following. Iron, let cool to room temp, scrape, brush with a metal brush, then put the skis outside and let them cool to outdoor temps. Brush again with a fine steel brush, then polish with horsehair or nylon. For these conditions, we like to use our aggressive steel brush, followed by fine steel.

  • SkiGo C380
  • SkiGo HF Universal
  • SkiGo C380/LF Green mix 50/50
  • Start Green

Fluoro Powder - SkiGo C110 (this may be a good race to skip the fluoro powder)

Topcoat - SkiGo C110 solid hand-corked and brushed with horsehair.

Structure - Very fine grinds. Rub glide zones with SkiGo Pink Paper after completing the glide wax job but before kick is applied.

Kick - Should be easy. The key will be keeping the skis fast in the brutally cold, dry snow. Start with a clean kick zone, sand the kick zone lightly and then iron in a base layer.

Base Layer (iron in)
  • SkiGo XC Green
  • Guru Green

Kick: (3-6 thin layers, depending on your skis)

  • Guru Green
  • SkiGo XC Green
  • You may want to try covering the top layer with one thin layer of Rode Special Green. Do not mix this in with the other layers, it should be a shell over the top of the wax and will speed things up.

Test Results

No on-snow test results for this race.

Be prepared for the snow and air to be extremely cold. It is very important in these conditions to brush out glide waxes very well with metal brushes AFTER they have cooled to outdoor temps.
